Concentration #2

  1. Your pieces are so creative! They are so unique to you and your ideas.
Ok, so the second piece, the one of giraffes, right?
I really like the little hill that is in the foreground in the right corner. It gives the piece a sense of depth. I like the difference in value between the foreground and the rest of the plain (although why the foreground is so much darker is a bit unclear. is there something casting a shadow on it? which direction is the sun coming from?). i also really like the sharp lines of the dry brush in the foreground. you pay so much attention to detail! however, the sky bothers me. is it done? because from the picture, it seems like the purple is out of place. it seems too purposeful. it seems to outline the clouds but the color is not reintroduced within the clouds themselves. the two sections seem too separate from each other, there is no harmony... but very well done.

  2. your foregrounds and backgrounds/skies are easily distinguished because of the different textures and values you use, but in the top piece it seems as though the sky and water are too defined. the composition is amazing though, and i love how creative your idea is. it makes the viewer want to keep looking at the piece, because there are so many hidden qualities about each of the pieces. i love how each of your pieces have a slightly different composition.

  3. These are both compositionly interesting, but the polarbear one needs more value in the sky and water. Also add more different colors to that one so that it's visually more interesting. It will add texture to the rocks. I think you should make the polarbear one looked at as if you're above water. It seems like its like the camera is half above and half bellow water. Havign it above water you can make the bottom of the iceberg fade away to darkness showing how deep it goes under. The Giraffe one is great. But i think you should add a green or some sort of cool color to the dark foreground part with the dead bush. Its painted beautifully though, especially that dried out bush. The sky to me is whats holding this piece back from really shining. make it look more natural.Your an amazing painter, and there's jealousy on my part. also the water in the bear one doesn't feel like water, so i would try and fix that.

  4. WOW the giraffe blows me away, you have truly found a way to take very delicate detailed landscapes and make them fun. My grandma used to do super intricate oil paintings of landscapes and kittens and dolls and things. These have that same quality, and then SURPRISE its a giraffe :)Now that you know how much I love them let me give you a teensy bit of critique. The water that the polar bear reflects in is a bit flat and uninteresting. I really wish it was moving and reflecting, not copying. Insert some light into the paintings so they really come out at you and are striking would also be a nice change. The sky in the giraffe piece is not in harmony with the giraffe. The sky feels busy and has too much going on right in the center, just where the giraffe is. Mix it up and let the sky have some rhythm. I love it please let me buy it someday :)

  5. wow your concentration is my favorite. and you do it so well! i am amazed at how you come up with all of these ideas and they work so well together. i just love it. you are also so amazing at painting. your details and textures are painted so well. The texture of the everything in the bottom one is so nicely done. Your value is very nice as well and your clouds are always so nice and fluffy looking. I agree that on the bottom one it seems as though the clouds are too outlined and stand out a bit too much. The water in the polar bear one bothers me a tiny bit. i think that maybe if you blended the diagonal lines in the water it would seem a little more smooth and balanced. other than that i am amazed by your work and loooove you ideas and all your peices are so interesting i could look at them for hours. very nicely done :)

  6. Ahhhh i love your concentration so creative and unique. Ho k so. both pieces are very interesting and i love your use of texture, such as a rock hill makes giraffe patetrns, or like ice kind of looks like fur. However both pieces ( more the polar bear one) need more depth i feel like they are a bit flat and i want to see more foreground middle ground and background . (something i need to work on too) Otherwise the composition and the lines quality are really great ! great job!! im excited to see what you some up with

  7. this idea of putting animals in their landscape is really interesting and I like it a lot, but I feel like some like the polarbear are portrayed too literally in that their shape is too defined. if the lines of the giraffes and polar bears were more rough like ice and dirt, I think it would add something to the piece. I don’t even know how you would do it, but all of the animals are hidden in hills, so if there was some way you could incorporate them more into the land itself through like trees and other landmarks, I think that would be cool.
